Samsung Book4 Edge laptop with Snapdragon X Elite SoC to cost upwards 1,800 EUR

Samsung laptops with Windows and high-performance Qualcomm CPUs to be expensive

Pricing level similar to Apple MacBooks.

Qualcomm’s next-gen ARM processor based on Oryon CPU architecture is set to shake the ground in the Windows laptop market. The Snapdragon X Elite processors are to bring Qualcomm to the top four producers of the mobile personal computers, following Apple, Intel, and AMD. However, it is an open secret that that Qualcomm’s biggest competitor is Apple.

The X Elite processors are coming to HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS laptops and also to the Samsung Galaxy Book series. A laptop called Book4 Edge is reportedly one of the Qualcomm-powered systems, featuring 12 cores and up to 4.3 GHz clock. Apple’s architecture is also based on ARM, however their ecosystem used a different operating system known as macOS.

According to WinFuture, the Book4 Edge will feature a 14-inch display, will come with 16GB of RAM and will have 512GB of storage by defualt. This is hardly considered a high-end spec in 2024, but apparently for Samsung that is worth the high-end price. The system’s main advantage over conventional AMD/Intel-based laptops is longer battery life and integrated 5G modem.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite
  • Galaxy Book 4 Edge with 12-core ARM CPU and Windows 11
  • Set to compete with Apple M series
  • 14-inch display, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD permanently installed
  • The price for the high-end model is around 1,800 euros
  • Possibly longer battery life and 5G modem

Apparently, the Book4 Edge will not be much cheaper than the Book4 Pro, which retails at 1,899 EUR. The price for Book4 Edge is expected around 1,800 EUR, it is claimed. This compared to the Apple MacBook Air with 13.6-inch screen means that the Samsung device would be 40 EUR pricier.

Worth noting that Qualcomm is preparing at least 8 different X Elite/Plus SKUs , so the pricing may still change should Samsung explore using cheaper variants.

Ultimately, the X Elite/Plus is an entirely new architecture and Qualcomm’s first major push into the PC market, which may be hard for Samsung to persuade Apple fans to switch. The Book4 Edge system is not to be expected sooner than June, as per the report.
