GeForce RTX 50: up to 512-bit memory bus, no 384-bit option?

NVIDIA might be skipping the 384-bit memory bus in their Blackwell gaming lineup.

Kopite7kimi has entered the conversation about next-gen NVIDIA gaming GPUs, conversations that were often sparked out of his rumors. This respected NVIDIA hardware leaker is now dropping hints about the upcoming RTX 50 family, possibly making its debut later this year.

The gaming GPUs, known as the GB20x series from Blackwell, are expected to include five distinct SKUs. Leading the pack is the flagship GB202 processor, previously claimed to boast up to 192 Streaming Multiprocessors. According to Kopite7kimi, there’s a possibility that the second-in-line GPU, named GB203, could sport half of that core count.

Thanks as always. GB203 is 256-bit and GB205 is 192-bit.

Now the new information is that GB203 might stick to 256-bit memory bus, which would make it half of GB202 in its entirety. What this also means is that there would be no GB20x GPU with 384-bit bus.

At least it should be like this now.

Speculations surround the potential specifications of the GB205, GB206, and GB207 processors, but the accuracy of these remains uncertain. Worth reminding that AD10X specifications were leaked before their launch due to a security breach at NVIDIA. Although those leaked specs turned out to be accurate, they didn’t include any information about the Blackwell gaming series.

Speaking of Blackwell, NVIDIA is expected to make some serious announcements at GTC 2024 next week. Throughout its history, GTC has proven to be the ideal platform for unveiling new HPC GPUs. Traditionally, gaming GPU announcements tend to follow a few months later.

The current roster of GB20x GPU family could look like this.
