Crucial to launch DDR5 memory with 12GB capacity

Spotted by @momomo_us , the new Crucial DRAM for laptops is to feature 12GB capacity. This option has not been offered before.

The DDR5 memory debuted with 8GB, 16GB and later 32GB module configurations. A year later, Intel and AMD have enabled support for so-called non-binary modules that offer 24GB or even 48GB capacity, leading to a non-standard memory configurations in modern systems. A bit more recently, 64GB modules have become available for enthusiasts and from the looks of it, one might soon get another option: a 12GB modules.

The first memory to support this capacity is Crucial laptop memory with 5600 MT/s speed by default. According to the product description, this memory also works in 5200 and 4800 MT/s modes, whichever is supported by the platform.

The company offers two kits, either one module or two (affiliate links)

By using such modules, one can now enable 12GB or 24GB memory total capacity in a new laptop system equipped with one or two SO-DIMM slots, respectively. Systems that have four SO-DIMM interfaces could support 48GB capacity.

According to the product page, Crucial 12GB modules will become available starting from March 31 .
