Intel adds 12 games to Application Optimization (APO) and “Advanced Mode” enabling 12th Gen Core+ support

Intel APO gains 12 games, partial support for 12th Gen Core+ CPUs

Intel is adding new games to its Application Optimization software.

Intel APO software is a sophisticated tool that can take advantage of advanced thread scheduling for individual apps. This tool has been confirmed to provide performance in such apps significantly, however the list of supported games and CPUs has been short.

The company is announcing today an update to their APO software. Officially, the software only supported Metro Exodus and Rainbow Six Siege, but this support is now expanding with 12 additional games, such as:

  • Final Fantasy XIV 🆕
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 🆕
  • World of Tanks
  • Dreams Three Kingdoms 2 (PRC) 🆕
  • F1 22 🆕
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 🆕
  • Rainbow 6 Siege
  • Serious Sam 4 (VLK) 🆕
  • Strange Brigade (VLK) 🆕
  • Watch Dog Legion 🆕
  • Metro Exodus
  • World War Z 🆕
  • Dirt 5 🆕
  • World of Warcraft 🆕

Intel APO allows users to disable the software for all app or enable per application, should the results not be as good as expected. Intel is not guaranteeing that all CPUs will show similar results. In fact, only the following processors are supported fully:

  • Intel Core i9 14900KS
  • Intel Core i9 14900K
  • Intel Core i9 14900KF
  • Intel Core i9 14900HX
  • Intel Core i7 14700K
  • Intel Core i7 14700KF
  • Intel Core i7 14700HX

However, according to the product page, APO will be supported by Core desktop and mobile SKUs from Core i3/i5/i7 and i9 tier. It should work for 12th Gen Core and newer. However, those CPUs will have to be manually enabled through “Advanced Mode” . Furthermore, the software requires one to install Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology software and make changes in the BIOS.

Worth noting that Advanced Mode not only enables support for non-14th Gen Core CPUs, it also works for untested games:

Advanced Mode allows users to see additional game titles that have not been validated to show performance improvement by Intel. This means that neither the processor nor the specific system configuration has been validated, and results may vary, including potential performance degradation.

If you have an Intel CPU from the 12/13 or 14th Gen Core series, make sure to leave a comment if you see any gains in games that weren’t listed above.
