Sony PS5 Pro and PSSR
According to the presentation page revealed by Moore’s Law is Dead , the next-gen PlayStation console should support a new version of super resolution technology.

It was revealed that the alleged PS5 Pro GPU has machine learning capability of 300 TOPS with 8-bit integers. For 16-bit floating-point calculations that figure is 67 TFLOPS, which also means that single-precision compute (FP32) is estimated at 33.5 TFLOPS at its peak, over 3 times as much as the current PS5.
Such GPU compute power suggests the that the GPU clock should be expected at 2.18 GHz (FP32) or 2.45 GHz (8-bit) . This is based on a previous claim that the PS5 Pro GPU has 60 out of 64 available Compute Units in the custom APU enabled.
In a document titled “ Trinity Technical Overview “, where Trinity is a known codename for the PS5 update, it is claimed that PS5 Pro could support machine-enhanced version of TAAU (Temporal Anti Aliasing Upscale), with similar inputs to DLSS or FSR, with full HDR support. This technology would also support dynamic input resolution and would also support up to 8K output in the future updates.
The upscaling from 1080p to 4K resolution would require 2ms of GPU cycle time, and that’s still a subject of further optimization. Such an upscaling library would require only 250 MB of memory.
Similarly to AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS, there is no requirement for per-game training, which means it can be supported by developers easily through the official Software Development Kit.

Sony is reportedly comparing PSSR to FSR2 and claiming that the image quality is better. However, the nature of these leaks prevents us from having a good side-by-side comparison due to being heavily manipulated to cover potential traces to the source. The important bit is that it should be equal or better than FSR2. Worth noting that FSR does not use machine-enhanced algorithms like DLSS, which uses it for artifacts handling. However, AMD has teased the possibility to add ML-algorithm to their upscaling, though.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro is targeting Q4 for the launch, but the company has not confirmed any plans for a new console. The new hardware is reportedly based on Viola APU combining AMD Zen2 CPU and RDNA3 architectures, representing an upgrade in graphics over PS5.
