Orange Pi Neo pricing revealed: New Steam Deck Killer?
The gaming handheld market is finally getting some long — expected competition in the higher-end segment.

Powered by the Majaro Linux distribution, the new handheld, called Orange Pi Neo, has now been released in China. Apart from featuring a new operating system, the product doesn’t offer anything groundbreaking that we haven’t seen before on the market. However, it appears that the company behind it has a compelling argument to make it an interesting product.
That argument is centered around pricing, which has been announced for two verisions. The Majaro OS-powered Orange Pi Neo, which was already known to feature Ryzen 7 7840U (“Phoenix”) will also be available with Ryzen 7 8840U (“Hawk Point”) processor. The latter will apparently come with a $100 higher price compared to the 7840U model. But here’s the cool part: that model will cost $499, making it the lowest-priced handheld equipped with this APU. This will certainly not go unnoticed by many competitors.
We launched #OrangePiNeo yesterday in #Shenzhen . The 7840u 16GB/512GB will be 4099 CNY / 499 USD and 8840u 16GB/512GB model starts at 4499 CNY / 599 USD pic.twitter.com/os8NTpnWZd

Of course, Orange Pi is a much smaller player, and not everyone will appreciate the fact that it doesn’t come with Windows or SteamOS. It isn’t a significant issue to install manually, though, but one should keep in mind that the system will primarily focus on Linux distributions.
The Orange Pi handheld will ship with 16GB LPDDR5 memory by default, with storage starting at 512GB, so the pricing ($499/$599) is for such a configuration. It was previously mentioned that the capacity and memory options may go up to 2GB and 32GB respectively, but the company hasn’t shared any news regarding this.
