AMD preparing Ryzen 5000XT series, yet another update for AM4 socket

AMD to launch Ryzen 5000 XT series with faster clocks

Something that has gone under a radar (including ours) is that AMD is also launching new Ryzen 5000 processors, effectively prolonging the AM4 socket yet again.

AMD expanded its desktop processor lineup earlier this year, with a particular focus on the AM5 series and Ryzen 8000G APUs. However, the company surprised many by also introducing four new AM4 processors, and it appears they’re not done yet.

Despite initial expectations, AMD has extended its support for the AM4 socket well into 2025, honoring its commitment to multi-year support. While not all motherboards can accommodate all processors due to BIOS size limitations, AMD’s dedication to ongoing support is evident.

At a recent event in China, AMD unveiled two upcoming products: the Ryzen 8000F chips, featuring disabled integrated graphics, and the Ryzen 5000XT series. This isn’t the first time AMD has introduced XT series processors.

This past example is the Ryzen 3000XT , which boasted clock speeds 100 to 200 MHz higher than the original parts. These upgrades were applied to the Zen2 “Mattise” based SKUs, a microarchitecture still in use today and reportedly slated for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro.

Looking ahead, it seems that the more modern Zen3 architecture will also receive similar updates. While AMD has confirmed the release of such series in China, specific SKUs have yet to be listed.

The Ryzen 5000XT will follow other parts, also recently launched, called 5000GT, which relied on the same principle of adding more frequency to existing models. In this case, however, we were looking at APUs based on Cezanne silicon, while here we will be getting a refresh of “Vermeer” desktop SKUs.
