Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro to feature 8-core Intel Lunar Lake processor with Xe2 Graphics

Next-Gen Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro laptop to feature Intel Lunar Lake CPU

Intel is gearing up to launch its new low-power mobile series known internally as “Lunar Lake” by the end of this year. Instead of to replacing the entire Meteor Lake product stack, Lunar Lake is intended to take over only the low-power variants, as per Intel’s own documents . The Lunar Lake architecture boasts 8 cores, divided into four Performance and four Efficient variants. What’s important to remember is that Lunar Lake marks the first commercially available processor to feature Intel’s new Xe2 graphics. It is in fact, the only Xe2 product confirmed for this year by Intel.

Samsung is apparently interested in using the chip for their Galaxy Book Pro laptops. Entries found in the SiSoftware Sandra database prove that Samsung is already in the works on the Book5 Pro, their premium laptop set to be based on Intel’s Lunar Lake architecture.

In contrast to the Book Ultra series, the Pro variants don’t always incorporate discrete graphics. Even if they do, these would be low-power variants. The Book Pro series is tailored for an ultra-slim laptop experience with touchscreen whereas the Ultra models boast the most high-end hardware, including RTX 40 graphics in the case of the last release of the Book4 series.

Samsung Galaxy Book Pro Series

  • Book Pro 2021 : Intel 11th Gen Core “Tiger Lake” with NVIDIA MX450
  • Book2 Pro 2022 : Intel 12th Gen Core “Alder Lake” with Iris Xe
  • Book3 Pro 2023 : Intel 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” with Iris Xe
  • Book4 Pro 2024 : Intel 1st Gen Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” with Arc Graphics (Xe-LPG)
  • Book5 Pro 202? : Intel Core “Lunar Lake” with Arc Graphics (Xe2-LPG)

A notebook identified as the “Samsung 999JZR Galaxy Book5 Pro (Samsung NT940XGK-DSD)” is reportedly equipped with 8 cores clocked between 1.6 GHz to 2.8 GHz. These clock speeds could potentially correspond to the base clock for the Skymont core (E-Core) and the boost clock for the Lion Cove (P-Core). The same clocks were observed in a different sample here . However, it’s important to consider that early listings might feature qualification samples, which are frequently heavily downclocked for testing purposes.

Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro Specs

  • Intel Lunar Lake CPU Core: Genuine Intel(R) 0000 1.60GHz (8C 2.8GHz/1.6GHz 75% OC, 5x 2.5MB L2, 2x 12MB L3)
  • Intel Lunar Lake GPU Core : Intel(R) Arc(TM) Graphics (512SP 64C 1.85GHz, 8MB L2, 7GB) (OpenCL)

The graphics on this device features 512 shaders, 64 Vector Engines (Execution Units), and 4 Xe2-Cores, since Xe2 Cores have 16-wide EU core count compared to current-gen Xe-Cores. This wouldn’t be the highest configuration of the GPU it seems, as the documents have mentioned 8 Xe2-Core config as such. According to these leaks, the integrated GPU (iGPU) is anticipated to feature a boost clock of 1.85 GHz.

Samsung Book5 Series do not have the release date yet, but it is quite possible that this would be one of the first products to be announced alongside Lunar Lake by Intel. Similar to the Book4 series, the actual availability may span across several weeks.
