MINISFORUM V3 is finally released

This is the world’s first tablet powered by an AMD Ryzen 8000 CPU.

The company had been teasing this launch for a long time, but today marks the official introduction of the V3, a 3-in-1 tablet powered by AMD hardware. This is actually Minisforum’s first tablet and one of the first on the market to feature such a powerful AMD processor.

As announced earlier, the tablet comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor featuring 8 Zen4 cores and 12 Compute Units based on RDNA3 architecture. The APU is designed to operate at 28W, achieving this with a some fancy dual-fan cooling system equipped with four copper heat pipes. Since this is the “Hawk Point” APU, it also comes with an increased AMD XDNA AI accelerator frequency, enabling up to 16 TOPS (Trillion operations per second) for AI workloads. The XDNA alone should be able to run some lightweight LLMs on its own.

The V3 is not a small device, though; it features a 14-inch screen with a resolution of 2560×1600, a 165Hz refresh rate, and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. It’s a high-end screen, no doubt, and might be a great choice for both gaming and work. Worth adding is that the product is advertised as a 3-in-1 because one of those use cases is to act as an external monitor through USB Type-C VLink (DP-in video input) pass-through. The other choices are ‘tablet’ or ‘laptop’ once a physical keyboard is attached.

The V3 model boasts strong interface and storage capabilities. It incorporates two USB4 interfaces, each capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to 40Gbp/s. Additionally, it can be linked to an external graphics dock. For expandable storage, it offers one semi-inserted SD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Storage-wise, the V3 supports a maximum combination of 32+2TB. It also comes equipped with a professional touch pen, which supports the MPP2.6 protocol and offers 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

Other notable features include support for Windows Hello and fingerprint unlock, conveniently integrated into the power button. It also supports PD 65W fast charging and is powered by a sizable 50.84Wh battery. The V3 further distinguishes itself with the inclusion of the exclusive intelligent Control Center VSPACE. This feature intelligently manages power consumption, allowing users to switch between power-saving mode (15W), balance mode (18-22W), and performance mode (28W), ensuring optimal performance for various usage scenarios.

The base model of V3 is priced at 6999 RMB, approximately equivalent to 960 USD. This configuration includes a keyboard (currently added for free) and features 32GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory along with 1TB of storage. For those desiring the stylus functionality, the version including the stylus is available for 7199 RMB, which translates to around 996 USD.
