Sony proposes “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label for PS5 Pro optimized games for 4K 60 FPS with PSSR

PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced program detailed

Insider Gaming claims game studios were notified about program requirements.

Following a substantial leak featuring Sony’s yet-to-be-announced gaming console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, Insider Gaming is slowly unveiling new details regarding this new product, supposedly already in the hands of game studios as dev kits. Among the documents listing the specs, Sony is also pushing developers to support the new PSSR upscaling technology, as well as enable or add more ray tracing effects to games.

Games that meet the certain criteria can be marketed with a label ‘Trinity Enhanced’, as described today, which should become ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ once the console is released. Worth noting is that this is not the first time Sony has used such a marketing idea for improved titles, as PS4 Pro enhanced games were labeled similarly in the past.

According to the report, games that support PSSR and will deliver a 4K 60 FPS experience with added or increased ray tracing effects will carry such a label. Furthermore, the documents mentioned by Insider Gaming confirm that the console will sport a 28% faster memory subsystem and a GPU that is 45% faster than the current model.

PlayStation goes on to continue that games may also be given the ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ label if they offer any of the following enhancements:

  • Increased target resolution for titles that run a fixed resolution on the standard console
  • Increased target maximum resolution for titles that run at variable resolution on the standard console
  • Increased target frame rate for titles that target a fixed frame rate on the standard console
  • Inclusion of PS5 Pro Raytracing effects

As noted further, it is not expected that the PS5 Pro will deliver the promised 4K 60 FPS experience in all games. In highly anticipated titles like GTA 6, it may prove challenging to deliver such an experience, especially given the constraints of the Zen2 CPU. Sony has opted not to update the CPU architecture and will only enable a 10% increase in clocks.

The Sony PS5 Pro is said to feature a custom AMD Viola APU with 8 Zen4 cores and new RDNA3 graphics with 60 Compute Units. While Sony is not increasing the capacity for the system memory, the memory will now run at a higher 18 Gbps throughout.

The PS5 Pro release date is not confirmed yet, however rumors pointed towards November at the earliest.
