TOKYO -- ChatGPT developer OpenAI is set to launch its first Asian base with an office in Tokyo this month, intending to provide tailored corporate services and participate in creating ethics guidelines for the technology , Nikkei has learned.
OpenAI has been showing interest in Japan. Chief Executive Sam Altman met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo last April -- a year after the American company unveiled ChatGPT, igniting a global frenzy around generative AI -- and hinted at establishing an office in the country.
