Intel Core Ultra 5 234V is the first known “Lunar Lake” processor

First Intel Core Ultra 200 CPU spotted, based on Lunar Lake

Leak confirms Lunar Lake will be part of the 200 series.

While rumors suggested that Lunar Lake, the upcoming low-power series based on Lion Cove, Skymont, and Xe2 architectures, would fall into the Core Ultra 200 series, it wasn’t clear what naming would apply to the series. Intel had already released special series like Ice Lake, which featured an entirely unique naming schema. The good news is that Intel appears to have come to their senses, and there won’t be much of a difference between the main series based on Arrow Lake and those based on Lunar Lake.

The first part based on this silicon has been spotted and confirmed as Core Ultra 5 234V, and it is confirmed to be an 8-core CPU without hyperthreading (Lion Cove does not support it). The new entry was spotted by Michael (@miktdt).

The V moniker for Core 200 series appears to be exclusive to Lunar Lake, with “H”, “HX” and “U” being unique to Arrow Lake and Raptor Lake-U.

What this essentially means is that the Core 200 series will feature three different architectures: Arrow Lake, Raptor Lake Refresh, and Lunar Lake, but each product is geared toward a different category. Furthermore, only Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake will have the “Ultra” moniker, which is how Intel now describes new architectures within the series. Thus, some customers may be confused with the low-power series featuring the Ultra descriptor, but this is the easiest way to know if the product is new.

Intel confirmed that Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake will debut this year; thus, the first products as part of the Core 200 Ultra lineup will be officially unveiled soon. The Lunar Lake-M should also pose some strong competition to Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon X Elite/Plus ARM-based series, and there is a new lineup of AMD Zen5-based Strix Point series coming too. It is indeed an interesting year for low-power and lightweight laptops.
