AMD APUs rumored to use RDNA3+ GPU architecture until at least 2027

AMD Radeon integrated graphics to maintain RDNA3+ architecture for another 3 years

This doesn’t rule out other options, though.

AMD is rumored to keep its RDNA3.5 (RDNA3+) graphics architecture until at least 2027, claims Golden Pig Upgrade, a known hardware leaker. This rumor surfaces even before any RDNA3+ product has been released, but it is expected to happen this year at some point.

AMD has not confirmed what changes RDNA3+ provides over RDNA3. However, AMD wouldn’t just change the name if there were no improvements at all. All of the new Zen5-based APUs are said to feature RDNA3.5 (Strix Point, Strix Halo, and Kraken). The only exception is Fire Range, which is more of a CPU than an APU (based on the desktop Granite Ridge). It is supposedly using the same I/O die with a built-in RDNA2 GPU architecture.

Rumors are already circulating regarding RDNA4 and even RDNA5 (Navi5). The former is expected to take center stage, possibly by the end of this year, with AMD releasing its first discrete GPUs based on this architecture. Speculation suggests that Navi4 will not target the high-end market this time around, instead focusing on the mid-range and high-end segments for the Radeon RX 8000 series.

Meanwhile, Navi5 (RDNA5) was mentioned in unsealed confidential documents by Microsoft. The company is reportedly in early discussions with AMD, which may provide its Navi5 graphics IP for the next-gen custom chip powering the new gaming console.

Recently, rumors have surfaced about a next-gen APU design codenamed “Sound Wave” potentially featuring Zen6 architecture for the CPU cores. However, there is no confirmation yet regarding the APU’s graphics IP. Based on past releases, AMD is highly likely to refresh its Zen5 APUs under the Ryzen 10000 series at some point. It’s worth noting that even today, consumers may still find Zen2 or even Vega-powered APUs on the market.
