ASUS and MSI confirm “Next-gen AMD Ryzen CPUs” support with latest AMD 600 motherboard firmware

Motherboard makers now officially tease next-gen AMD Ryzen support

Looks like AMD is launching Zen5 CPUs soonish.

In-depth analysis of the latest AGESA firmware is no longer necessary to confirm its support for the Ryzen 9000 series. Both MSI and ASUS have happily confirmed that the Combo AM5 Pi 1.1.7.0 patch A firmware, released this month for several AMD 600 series boards, indeed supports AMD Ryzen CPUs from the next-gen series.

While the official naming of the Zen5-based CPU series has not been announced yet, indications from AMD software suggest it will be called Ryzen 9000. These series are expected to be socket compatible with all AM5-based motherboards, with only a BIOS update required. Some boards already have this update available, although AMD has not yet released any Zen5 desktop CPUs.

The first ASUS board, the B650E-I Gaming ROG STRIX, is now officially supporting next-gen Ryzen CPUs, with MSI even releasing a press release to affirm this fact. This move undoubtedly serves as a teaser for what could be just around the corner, especially considering that AMD has a keynote planned for Computex 2024, which is less than two months away.

The AMD Ryzen 9000 series, codenamed “Granite Ridge,” is rumored to feature up to 16 Zen5 cores. This next-gen architecture is expected to extend beyond desktops to laptops and possibly handheld devices in the future, although the timing for these releases has not been confirmed. However, what is certain, as officially announced by AMD, is that Zen5 will be available this year.
