RTX 40 gaming GPU in single-slot design
GALAX RTX 4060 Ti MAX which we covered extensively has now been tested by Chinese media.
GALAX has come up with an idea for a mid-range model that would fit very tight spaces. As long as you have one slot free on the motherboard, then you can easily add an RTX 4060 Ti graphics card to your system.
The MAX is a single-slot design based on a blower-style fan cooler. Thus far, GALAX in China has only released one model with this design, with no sign of the RTX 4060 or RTX 4060 Ti 8GB. Only the 16GB model has received this cooler, which may point us towards what the original plan was. As we know, the high-memory models are in high demand currently due to their use for AI-accelerated environments. The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is probably a good pick considering it has the same memory capacity as the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER or RTX 4080, but certainly costs more than Arc A770, which comes in such a memory config as well.
Expreview took the GALAX model for a spin, and they treated it just like any other graphics card, a gaming model. In fact, the outlet doesn’t even test any AI tests, which is a good sign.

The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB has relatively low-power requirements of only 165W. That’s just 5W more than the 8GB model. It ships with the AD106 GPU with 4352 CUDA cores and boosts up to 2.5 GHz. Naturally, the single-slot MAX model is not factory-overclocked, although the reviewer did attempt to increase the performance a bit more.
In terms of actual testing, the card performs well in thermal tests, with a maximum GPU temperature reported at 69.5°C and a hotspot temperature of 81.9°C, well within what other custom models can offer. In idle mode, the card’s temperature rises to around 43.6°C, a bit higher than most custom models.
When the load kicks in, the single fan picks up the speed up to 3100 RPM, which is around 84% of the maximum speed. At a distance of 50 cm away from the card, the noise level rises to 51.4 dBA, much higher than most models, including Colorful’s Ultra OC or even the NVIDIA Founder Edition. The noise level is a clear disadvantage of this design, but at least the fan will stop when the card is idle, so there is that.

Further testing has shown that the card still has some overclocking potential, with the core clock increasing by an extra 260 MHz and memory by 220 MHz. The highest recorded frequency was 3045 MHz during that test, which provided around 5% higher performance overall.
GALAX has not yet released this model on the global market, and chances are it will never be released outside China.
