Minisforum launches UM790 XTX Mini-PC with Ryzen 9 7940HS APU up to 70W

The UM790XTX features 70W Performance Mode

Minisforum has launched the Ryzen 9 version of its premium Mini-PC.

Last year, the company announced its Ryzen 9 7940HS and Ryzen 7 7840HS based Mini-PC series, named UM790 XTX and UM780 XTX, respectively. However, the UM790 XTX was not available until now. Both feature an 8-core Zen4 processor, with the main difference being the maximum clock speed of the processor (5.2 GHz vs 5.1 GHz).

Today, the Ryzen 9 model has been released in China, confirming that it will operate with up to 70W TDP setting, surpassing AMD’s default TDP for the series by 25 watts (Ryzen 7040HS has configurable TDP within 35 to 54W range). Users can manually enable this 70W Performance Mode, allowing for a higher TDP setting than the default 65W TDP of the Ryzen 8000G series.

The series differ in their silicon design: Ryzen 7040HS models use “Phoenix” while 8000G uses “Hawk Point.” This results in slower Radeon XDNA AI-acceleration on the Phoenix model. However, for other tasks, the 70W model should be faster, including gaming, as both are equipped with identical Radeon 700M RDNA3 graphics.

UM780/790 XTX Pricing (China)

  • UM790 XTX (Ryzen 9 7940HS + 16GB DDR5-5600 + 512GB SSD): 3999 RMB (~552 USD)

  • UM780 XTX (Ryzen 7 7840HS + 16GB DDR5-5600 + 512GB SSD): 3599 RMB (~497 USD)
  • UM780 XTX (Ryzen 7 7840HS): 2899 RMB (~400 USD)
