ASUS spills the beans on AMD product naming for Strix Point Series
Not Ryzen 8050? Meet Ryzen AI 9.

ASUS claims their next-gen VivoBook S16 laptops, powered by a 12-core AMD CPU, will feature an entirely new naming scheme. Contrary to what Lenovo has shown for their T14 laptop, the upcoming Strix Point APU series from AMD may feature a new naming scheme altogether.
AMD is seemingly changing the naming to match Intel’s. The Core Ultra 9 would compete with the Ryzen AI 9 HX processor, currently listed as the HX 170 SKU featuring 12 cores and up to a 5.1 GHz clock. This processor would power the upcoming VivoBook S16 OLED laptop (M5606), which is most likely going to be announced at Computex next month.

5.1GHz (36MB Cache, up to 5.1GHz, 12 cores, 24 Threads) AMD Ryzen™ AI up to 77 TOPs
These new models are an update to the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS Processor-powered system, which offers a combined AI power of 39 TOPS. According to ASUS, the next-gen AMD APUs will deliver up to 77 TOPS, mainly contributed by the updated XDNA2 AI core and faster RDNA3.5 graphics. The NPU alone would deliver 45 TOPS, confirms ASUS.

The departure from the Ryzen 9 naming into Ryzen AI branding comes just a few months after Intel introduced its Core Ultra branding. Both companies seem to be reverting back to the 100 series. This also raises a question about the Ryzen 9000, also known as desktop parts, which were already mentioned by companies like Gigabyte.
