ASUS Zephyrus G16 with Strix Point APU listed in South Africa

AMD next-gen mobile APUs are just around the corner, it seems.

ASUS has begun sharing details about the ROG Zephyrus GA605WI laptop, seemingly powered by the Ryzen 8050 “Strix Point” APU. The listing emerged in South Africa, where the ROG laptop is priced at 69,100 Rands (around $3700). This laptop would feature GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and 1TB of storage.

Interestingly, this listing does not specify the CPU version, indicating that either AMD has yet to confirm the processor’s name or information distribution began before the specs were finalized. What is revealed, though, is that this particular model would boast 12 cores, the full configuration of the Strix Point APU. What remains unconfirmed is whether it’s part of the Ryzen 8055H (35-55W) series or something different, like the 8050 (20-30W).

Update : Another leak, this time directly from ASUS , appears to confirm AMD will be using a new naming scheme altogether. The said 12-core part could be Ryzen AI 9 HX 170 SKU .

The G16 Zephyrus has already been released this year with the updated Intel Core Ultra 100 CPUs (up to Core Ultra 9 185H). It is almost certain that ASUS will reuse the chassis for the AMD version; however, it remains to be seen whether ASUS will also equip this system with RTX 4090 Laptop GPU that is offered with Intel variant.

What we do know about the new series is that it will feature CPU cores (4x Zen5 + 8x Zen5c) and more GPU cores (16 RDNA3.5 CUs vs. 12 RDNA3 CUs), compared to the Ryzen 804x series. AMD is expected to make a formal announcement of the new series at Computex next month. The early listing suggests that OEMs may be preparing to launch new laptops sooner than expected.
