Exclusive: Dell XPS 13 Plus laptop with Qualcomm Snapdragon X SoC detailed

XPS 13 9345 Plus with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite/Plus detailed

Dell is preparing its XPS 13 Plus laptop to launch very soon.

Internally, the new laptop is referred to as TributoQC, which is a successor to TributoRPL based on Intel Raptor Lake architecture. Dell has already launched its XPS 13 laptop based on Meteor Lake architecture, but the Plus version targets a lower power and price point. It’s worth noting that the document refers to the Qualcomm chips as Nuvia because at the time when these slides were made, Qualcomm had not made the formal announcement of the Snapdragon X series yet.

Starting with the Snapdragon chip, the XPS 13 is said to feature 10 and 12-core configurations with a maximum TDP of 25.5W, as per leaked slides. This laptop is said to maintain the same size but will be just slightly lighter (2.67 lbs vs. 2.7 lbs). The system is equipped with a 13.4-inch screen which will see an update as well, but interestingly, the resolution of the flagship OLED panel will be lower (from 3.5K to 2.8K).

The new feature is that the laptop will use LPDDR5X-8400 memory, now 16GB as standard (for Intel, that was 8GB). This laptop will be offered with 32GB and even 64GB, as per documents. There are no changes to the storage options, but there is a new Full-HD Camera.

Dell is aiming for a $1199 cost tag for this laptop, but bear in mind that this estimate is from mid-2023. The cost and retail price are not the same thing, and the latter has not been confirmed, but should this laptop launch at this price it would have been $800 cheaper than the Apple MacPro M1 and would match the pricing of the MacBook Air M2. The company aims to produce 241,000 units of this laptop, with a planned release set for June this year.
