One small step for developer, big performance gains for gamers

If you’re into space simulation and exploration but also want the latest graphics technology, your choices are limited to several titles: No Man’s Sky, Starfield, or maybe the 13-year-old Star Citizen? Technically, the game never fully came out, but it has been available for download for years as an early access build.
With NVIDIA DLSS being around since 2018 and FSR arriving not much later, Star Citizen developers have finally added these technologies to their StarEngine (a heavily modified version of CryEngine) based game. The latest Alpha 3.23, codenamed “Adventure Beckons,” update adds support for these technologies.
The game now supports FSR 2, DLSS 3.7 (according PC Gaming Wiki ), and an in-house implementation of TSR (note that’s not Unreal Engine TSR). This means that gamers should theoretically have access to frame generation on NVIDIA GPUs, but it is not available for AMD users.
New Cloud Tech and Visual Options
The volumetric cloud technology in Star Citizen has been updated to improve both performance and visual quality, adding ground fog and volumetric shadows as visual options. Additional performance improvements come with support for image upscaling solutions including DLSS, FSR, and an in-house developed TSR solution. […]
According to the changelog, Star Citizen recently introduced native wildlife, featuring the marok bird and the kopian creature. The marok gracefully soars through the skies, utilizing its large wingspan to cover long distances while scavenging for food near human settlements. On the other hand, the kopian poses a threat, often forming packs that players must confront.
Additionally, Mirai unveiled the Pulse and Pulse LX hoverbikes , promising an adrenaline-fueled riding experie. A new feature called Master Modes enhances ship-to-ship combat dynamics, providing players with strategic options.
Distribution centers have been introduced across the Stanton system, serving as mission hubs for players. Arena Commander received updates with new maps and gameplay modes, including Miner’s Lament, while the Star Map now offers enhanced navigation features.
Adventure Beckons also brings improvements to FPS combat mechanics , ensuring a more immersive experience on foot. Cloud technology and visual options have been upgraded for better performance and quality, while character customization receives a significant overhaul.
Finally, the New Player Experience has been expanded to all starting locations, offering newcomers various entry points into the game’s universe.
