NVIDIA RTX Video is now supported by Mozilla Firefox browser

NVIDIA RTX Video now in FireFox

The RTX technologies expanding beyond gaming and Chromium browsers.

NVIDIA RTX Video, the video upscaling technology, is now available in the first non-Chromium-based browser. The technology leverages NVIDIA RTX GPUs and makes use of special algorithms to enhance video quality for video streams, similar to its real-time gameplay through DLSS tech.

Users who subscribe to premium video streaming services and user browsers to play content, can now use RTX Video to upscale video to higher resolutions without requiring a higher-tier subscription. The algorithms behind RTX Video also address compression artifacts and improve sharpening and color vibrancy if HDR mode is used.

The RTX Video is now available in Mozilla Firefox, following its earlier launch on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge this year. It’s worth noting that RTX Video is also compatible with local video players such as VLC.

Users with HDR displays can also look into RTX Video HDR technology, which converts standard dynamic range (SDR) content into high dynamic range (HDR) content. However, for this feature to function optimally, an HDR600 monitor is recommended.

According to NVIDIA, RTX Video technology is supported by Firefox version 126 or newer. To enable RTX Video, one must update the driver and follow the these steps:

  1. Update to the latest GeForce RTX Game Ready Driver, NVIDIA Studio or NVIDIA RTX Enterprise Driver.
  2. Ensure Windows HDR features are enabled by navigating to System > Display > HDR.
  3. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and navigate to Adjust Video Image Settings > RTX Video Enhancement.
  4. Turn on “Super Resolution” and “High Dynamic Range.”
