There are no official DisplayPort 2.1 DP80 cables longer than 1.2m

Monitors (Hardware) Unboxed recently tested the AORUS F032U2P gaming monitor, which is the world’s first monitor supporting DisplayPort 2.1 at its full 80 Gbit/s (UHBR20) mode. Immediately after that review was published, a follow-up video expanded further on the major issue with the DisplayPort 2.1 standard in its current state, which is the short length of the cables.
VESA, the organization responsible for the standard, has a list of all officially certified cables. Given the rarity of this feature and the high cost of the AORUS monitor, one should definitely stick to the official cables to ensure maximum compatibility and a worry-free experience. The issue is that the cable that comes with the monitor is too short for many users (only 1 meter).
It turns out that the official list of DP 2.1 cables doesn’t go beyond 1.2 meters. For desktop systems with a single monitor setup, this may still work, but for any more sophisticated setup, it could be a problem, especially when the PC is not on the desk.

The issue raised by Monitors Unboxed is that it is very difficult to transmit such a high-bandwidth signal through a passive copper cable. Anything that requires a longer cable would need an active cable, which is much more expensive. Additionally, there is a problem with misleading marketing and certification, where users can find ‘certified’ cables that have false certification or do not adhere to the newer 2.1 standard.
VESA is currently working on active DP 2.1 DP80 cable specs, which may hopefully solve the problem by allowing longer lengths. However, potential users should start saving money already, given that these cables won’t be cheap.

Currently, no gaming GPU on the market supports DP 2.1 UHBR20 mode, as Radeon RX 7000 GPUs stick to UHBR13.5 mode and GeForce RTX 40 does not support DP 2.x at all. The only GPU architecture supporting this standard are professional Radeon PRO 7000 series. However, rumors suggest that the next generation of gaming GPUs may also support this standard, but not in the case of Intel Battlemage .
