The X1 Mini unveiled: a smaller screen, same AMD processor
The company set to launch a smaller version of their handheld.
OneXPlayer says it’s their mission to enhance the gaming experience. The X1 handheld, which came out earlier this year, received mixed feedback from reviews. The idea of transforming a tablet into both a gaming handheld device and a laptop is interesting, but the end product simply can’t fit everyone’s taste. The smaller version, simply called “Mini,” will not fix all the issues, but it will address one of the most highlighted problems: the screen being too big.
As a reminder, the original X1 comes equipped with a 10.95-inch screen and is both heavy and difficult to hold. The idea is to either use gamepads attached to the screen or use them disconnected from the tablet, like any controller. The tablet has a special stand that allows it to be used as a normal tablet. It even comes with an optional keyboard attachment, fully transforming it into a laptop (or so-called 2-in-1 device).

OneXPlayer announced that the original X1 will receive an update to AMD hardware, specifically the Ryzen 7 8840U APU. At the same time, a teaser was posted for the X1 Mini, a smaller version of the tablet/game device. The company has confirmed that the screen is indeed smaller, at 8.8 inches, although not as much as many expected. The screen will offer up to a 144Hz refresh rate, higher than the X1’s 120Hz. Interestingly, there is no mention of the screen’s resolution.
The company is also reassuring its customers that the SSD will be swappable. A picture of the SSD card slot posted on the crowdfunding page suggests it uses the M.2 2230 SSD card form factor.
OneXPlayer X1 Mini Features:
- Customizable Storage: With the innovative swappable SSD feature, users can effortlessly modify their device’s storage to match their current activities, whether gaming, professional work, or multimedia enjoyment.
- Advanced Performance: Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the X1 Mini handles the most demanding games and applications with ease, delivering smooth and responsive gameplay.
- Superior Visual and Audio Experience: The device boasts a 144Hz refresh rate display for ultra-smooth visuals and is equipped with Harman EFX-tuned audio for an immersive sound experience.
- Versatile Gaming Controls: Detachable controllers offer both traditional handheld and console-style gaming, providing flexibility and comfort for all types of gamers.
- Extended Battery Life: Designed for prolonged use, the X1 Mini ensures that users can enjoy continuous gameplay and media consumption without frequent recharges.
- Extensive Connectivity Options: Featuring native OCulink and full-feature USB 4.0 ports, the X1 Mini ensures superior connectivity, supporting a wide array of peripherals and facilitating high-speed data transfers.
The company is not confirming the price or release date but refers potential customers to its Indiegogo page. We do not recommend taking part in hardware preorders, especially for devices that have not been tested.
It is worth noting that OneXPlayer also offers a “2 Pro” handheld, which features an 8.4-inch screen and a more gaming-focused design. Even this version has an accessory in the form of a keyboard.
