AMD Strix Point might be launching in August

The owner of the AOOSTAR specializing in the Mini-PC and eGPU solutions has stated that a new product featuring AMD’s next-gen Ryzen CPU will be released in August.

Since we are discussing a Mini-PC company that has not yet released a desktop product, it can be assumed that the owner of AOOSTAR is referring to Ryzen mobile, also known as the Strix Point series.

The new Ryzen processors are expected to launch for laptops, tablets, Mini-PCs and most likely new handhelds. The rumored Ryzen CPUs, which are expected to feature the new Zen5 architecture, are expected to launch in the second half of this year.

The company expects its new Mini-PCs featuring this architecture to become available around October. It is quite rare for any Mini-PC to feature a new CPU shortly after its launch. For instance, the Intel Meteor Lake chips, also known as Core Ultra 200, have only recently started to appear in Mini-PCs, even though the platform is half a year old.

AMD Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300?) rumored schedule:

  • Announcement : June 2024 (Computex)
  • Launch : August 2024 (limited to large OEMs)
  • Broader availability : October 2024

Interestingly, the same company owner confirmed that AMD will launch a new Radeon RX 7650M XT external GPU solution in July. AOOSTAR is currently testing a prototype featuring the RX 7600M XT version, which looks like this. Presumably, the RX 7650M upgrade will use the same Navi 33 GPU and power targets, making it a drop-in replacement for this product once released. The company aims to support up to 130W TGP.

Thus far, no other company has revealed AMD’s plans for Zen5 CPU deployment. However, AMD fans should not be concerned for much longer, as the company will have a special keynote next week at Computex. AMD should unveil both desktop and mobile Zen5 series and judging from AOOSTAR claims, there might also be a small update for mobile graphics.
