GPD unveils laptop with two 13.3-inch Samsung AMOLED screens

GPD DUO, an actual laptop with two full-sized OLED monitors

GPD may be best known for its gaming handhelds, but their products often serve dual purposes: gaming and ultra-compact portable computing. The company also manufactures standard laptops. Making use of their experience with unique designs, GPD has developed something new.

In the previous post about the GPD DUO, the company claimed it is the world’s first dual-screen laptop. This claim might seem confusing since similar devices have been seen in the past. However, unlike those 2-in-1 hybrid devices, which feature two touch screens and an optional keyboard attachment, the GPD DUO is an actual laptop with two screens and a permanently attached keyboard.

The GPD DUO features dual 13.3-inch OLED screens, utilizing Samsung’s original AM-OLED panels. When folded, the device is the size of an A4 sheet of paper, and when both screens are fully extended, it measures 18 inches. It supports 10-point touch, 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity with a stylus, the MPP protocol, and is compatible with the Surface Pen stylus!

The base of the GPD DUO laptop serves as a counterweight to support the dual-screen design. The second screen folds behind the primary screen, allowing the device to function as a tablet or to display content for presentations while showing notes on the primary screen. This design makes it a versatile companion for work on the go, provided the base is heavy enough to prevent screen wobble.

According to the announcement, both screens are 13.3 inches in size and use OLED technology (Samsung AMOLED). GPD has not disclosed the exact hardware powering this laptop, but it is marketed as an “AI PC.” This could mean it uses various hardware architectures, such as Intel Core Ultra 100/200, AMD Ryzen 7000/9000/AI 300, or Qualcomm Snapdragon X, the latter is less likely, although GPD expressed interest in this architecture on Discord. What’s also worth adding is that the laptop includes Ethernet and OCuLink ports.

Further details are expected to be shared next week.
