AMD Radeon PRO W7900 for AI with dual-slot design set to launch in June

Slimmer Radeon W7900

AMD is set to be launching a new professional GPU.

AMD is planning an update to its professional RDNA3 lineup. The Radeon PRO W7900 is said to be receiving a variant designed for AI workloads. This claim comes from Hoang Anh Phu, who has previously leaked several AMD products, most recently the EPYC 4004 for the AM5 socket.

It is claimed that the Radeon W7900, powered by the Navi 31 GPU and featuring the full configuration of this processor, will be released in a new design with a dual-slot cooler. The card is said to retain its blower-style cooler. By switching to slimmer dual-slot coolers, users will be able to use the W7900 in clusters more efficiently without losing space.

The new card is said to prioritize artificial intelligence, which is likely referring to a dedicated GPU for generative AI and Large Language Model (LLM) support. The W7900 already features 48GB of GDDR6 memory, so the capacity is unlikely to change.

AMD launched the W7900 in April at $3,999, but the card is now retailing at $3,660 (Amazon affiliate link). Alternatively, customers may choose the gamer RX 7900 XTX GPU which is much cheaper ($999) but has half the memory (24GB). However, the RX version does not have any dual-slot design, except for water-cooled models.

According to Hoang, the Radoen PRO W7900 AI Edition will launch in June. AMD is likely to announce this new graphics card at Computex.
