LG UltraGear OLED 45GS95QE gaming monitor first to receive VESA DisplayHDR 1.2 certification

First DisplayHDR 1.2 compliant monitor is from LG

The monitor was released in April, but it is now the first to follow VESA’s new specs.

Earlier this month, VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) announced an update to its DisplayHDR specifications, a standard for HDR-enabled displays that includes several tiers. For those in the market for a new monitor, these badges offer a quick reference to the display’s capabilities, in this case for its HDR performance.

The DisplayHDR 1.2 specs update introduces new testing requirements for monitor manufacturers. While over 3000 monitors have passed testing under DisplayHDR 1.0, only one has met the new 1.2 specifications. The LG UltraGear OLED 45GS95QE, a premium 45-inch monitor with a 3440×1440 resolution, is now officially compliant with DisplayHDR 1.2 TrueBlack 400 standards.

The LG 45GS95QE is an ultra-wide, curved monitor with a 45-inch OLED display. It features a 3440×1440 resolution and offers a 240Hz refresh rate. The monitor reaches a peak brightness of 1000 nits, with a typical brightness of 275 nits. It supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible, and AdaptiveSync synchronization technologies. Previously, it was certified by DisplayHDR True Black 400 and VESA ClearMR 13000.

DisplayHDR 1.2 specs introduce a new color accuracy test that measures the average Delta-TP* of 96 colors at three luminance levels, with updated specs allowing a Delta-TP error of 8 for tiers 400, 500, and 600, and 6 for tier 1000 and above. Additionally, new tests include static contrast ratio requirements with 2D local dimming for DisplayHDR 1000+, an HDR vs SDR black-level test for improved black-level performance and battery life, a black crush test for accurate shadow detail, and a subtitle luminance flicker test for ideal local dimming behavior.

The 45GS95QE-B monitor currently retails at $1299.
