Intel confirms Core Ultra 200V naming for Lunar Lake, Core Ultra 7 268V spotted during demo

Intel Core Ultra 7 268V: flagship Lunar Lake SoC

Intel’s Computex keynote focused primarily on the new architecture known as Lunar Lake. Expectations were high, and Intel delivered a lot of technical details. However, to our surprise Intel did not confirm the naming and specifications of their new chips.

Even before Computex, it became widely known that the Lunar Lake series would carry the Core Ultra 200V naming scheme. These low-power CPU series will be offered alongside Core Ultra 200(K) Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs and Core Ultra 200H Arrow Lake-H laptop chips. Yet, Intel did not release any slides with SKU names for their new Lunar Lake chips, perhaps to leave some details for a third major launch event for Lunar Lake (following Vision and Computex).

During one of the demos at Computex, Intel “accidentally” revealed the name of the flagship Lunar Lake silicon. The SoC is reportedly called Core Ultra 7 268 , and the reason it is a flagship is relatively easy to explain. The Lunar Lake series will be offered with up to 4 Lion Cove and 4 Skymont cores (totaling 8 CPU cores) and up to 8 Xe2 cores.

According to the demo, the CPU indeed featured 8 cores and was running with a base clock of 2.2 GHz and was seen boosting to 4.0 GHz and occasionally to 5.0 GHz. This wasn’t a frequency showcase, but rather a demonstration of a Windows task manager with Lunar Lake, showing how efficient it is. Thus, the exact clock details are just estimates.

Another reason we can call it a flagship is that the system is equipped with 32GB of memory. As we know, Lunar Lake chips feature memory on package (MoP) which cannot be upgraded. It will ship with either 16GB or 32GB of memory, so this configuration matches the highest specs in the lineup.

Intel also showcased the built-in Xe2 Arc GPU, though they didn’t reveal the GPU configuration. However, we already know from leaked documents that Core Ultra 7 SKUs will have 8 cores, whereas Core Ultra 5 will have 7.

An interesting detail is that Arc Xe2 GPUs are apparently using a newer driver with WDDM 3.2. The Windows Display Driver Model 3.2 means that Lunar Lake is already using the Windows 11 2024 Update (24H2), which supports Shader Model 6.8. The driver model can be seen in the left lower corner.

Intel Core Ultra 200V is expected to hit the shelves next quarter, but neither Intel nor any laptop maker was ready to reveal the final launch date.
