Samsung unveils 2024 Odyssey OLED lineup

Samsung is introducing new OLED gaming monitors, the Odyssey G8 and G6, with new features aimed at improving user experience. Preorders for the 32-inch G8 (model G80SD) are already underway, US launch price at $1,299. The G8 offers features to protect against OLED burn-in and what seems to be the industry’s first AI-powered resolution upscaling for content and games.
The G80SD is Samsung’s first AI-powered gaming monitor, equipped with the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor found in the company’s 2024 Neo QLED 8K TV. This processor enables AI-upscaling capabilities, improving content quality and games to “nearly 4K” resolution when accessed through the monitor’s built-in smart TV apps and Gaming Hub. This feature only works for content that is shown on the monitor’s built-in software, like Xbox Game Pass streaming or Netflix.

Gaming Hub powered by AI
Gaming Hub provides instant access to your favorite streaming platforms and gaming consoles, without downloads. Responsive gameplay is powered up by Samsung’s advanced NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, which enables AI upscaling to nearly 4K for more immersive experiences, even when streaming games.

To address concerns about OLED burn-in, Samsung has introduced a proprietary “pulsating heat pipe” cooling system, claiming it to be five times more effective than previous methods. The monitor also automatically adjusts brightness to mitigate static image retention.
The G8 features a flat display, 3840 x 2160 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and support for FreeSync Premium Pro (and NVIDIA G-Sync compatible) to reduce lag and tearing. It is now listed at $1,299.

The G6 is a 27-inch flat panel with a resolution of 2560×1440. It supports a higher refresh rate of 360Hz. This monitor retails at $899.
