AMD Ryzen 5 9600X pre-release SKU under overclocking
There’s an update to the leaked Ryzen 5 9600X engineering sample. Following the leaked AIDA64 score, the same leaker has now provided updated CPU-Z scores, confirming it can boost well beyond the last-gen CPU.

The Ryzen 5 9600X is a 6-core Zen5 processor that will ship with a max boost clock of 5.4 GHz. This is already 100 MHz higher than the Ryzen 5 7600X, the current model featuring Zen4 cores. But the underlying architecture is just one of the changes introduced to this mid-range SKU. The new version has a much lower TDP target, now just 65W compared to 105W on the current SKU.
According to the new benchmark results, the engineering sample is already capable of reaching a 5.7 GHz clock across all cores. This is much higher than the typical 7600X, which could boost up to 5450 MHz. This sample has scored 871.4 points in the single-threaded benchmark and 7096.6 points in the multi-threaded workload.

Since the same source has already provided a score for the stock 9600X (ES), we can quickly make the following comparison. Just bear in mind this is just a basic overview of CPUs that can easily score higher or lower depending on the platform, motherboard settings, or power configuration.
| CPU-Z 17.0 | ||
|---|---|---|
| VideoCardz.com | ST Score | MT Score |
| AMD Ryzen 5 9600X ES OC @ 5.7 GHz | 871 (100%) | 7097 (100%) |
| AMD Ryzen 5 9600X ES Stock @ 5.4 GHz | 776 (89%) | 6201 (87%) |
| AMD Ryzen 5 7600X OC @ 5.45 GHz | 767 (88%) | 6276 (88%) |
| AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Stock @ 5.3 GHz | 727 (83%) | 6179 (87%) |
The Ryzen 9000 series is set to launch in July. There is no indication that AMD will release a 6-core X3D version for the AM5 socket, even though a similar model is available for the previous generation on AM4 platform. For now, it appears that AMD’s fastest 6-core processor will be from the current lineup, with no new 6-core models expected in the near future.
