SK hynix GDDR7 in Q1 2025 at earliest

AnandTech had an opportunity to ask an SK hynix representative when the company is expected to start shipping next-gen consumer graphics memory, the GDDR7, in volume. According to the company representative, this should happen at the beginning of 2025.
SK hynix was among the largest memory makers presenting early samples of the GDDR7 memory at Computex. This memory features increased speeds over GDDR6 and GDDR6X standards and is strictly designed for discrete graphics cards. Currently, only the NVIDIA RTX 50 is confirmed to feature GDDR7 memory. The company will use this technology for both of its GeForce RTX 50 lines: desktop and mobile. However, some desktop graphics cards may still feature GDDR6 memory, as revealed yesterday .
SK hynix is officially aiming for volume production to start in the first quarter of 2025. This seems to be later than competing suppliers such as Samsung and Micron, the latter expecting the first products with GDDR7 to be available this year. Memory vendors are already supplying samples to unnamed customers, but it is very likely that one of the first companies to deploy GDDR7 will be NVIDIA.
According to company representatives at the show, the firm will not kick off mass production of their GDDR7 chips until the first quarter of 2025.

Gamers should expect faster memory chips that will lead to increased bandwidth. This will allow graphics cards to transfer more data, such as high-resolution textures, between the chips and the graphics processor. Some GPUs will keep the same memory bus, but the new SKUs will still benefit from increased memory bandwidth.
SK hynix has already been teasing its GDDR7 memory at GTC in March . The company expects to hit a 40 Gbps memory speed at some point; however, the first generation of GDDR7 GPUs is expected to use 28 to 32 Gbps.
