Minisforum launches UM890 Pro Mini-PC up to with 70W Ryzen 9 8945HS Hawk Point APU

The EliteMini UM880/890 Pro unlocks 70W TDP

It is probably difficult to compete with Minisforum in terms of the number of products being announced.

Minisforum is updating its UM870 series with new AMD Ryzen APUs. The Ryzen 8000 series, codenamed “Hawk Point,” offers a minor update to the Phoenix silicon, featuring up to 8 Zen4 cores and up to 12 RDNA3 Compute Units. These new APUs come with a faster AMD XDNA processor (NPU) for AI acceleration, but they are essentially minor updates to existing processors.

Minisforum is launching two variants of the Ryzen 8000 systems: the UM880 Pro and UM890 Pro, both part of the EliteMini series. The main difference between them is the Ryzen APU used: the UM890 Pro has the Ryzen 9 8945HS, while the UM880 Pro has the Ryzen 7 8845HS, so both offering very similar specs.

Aside from the APU, this system is a high-end Mini-PC with a slightly larger chassis to accommodate a more powerful cooling solution. This enhanced cooler featuring two separate fans is necessary, considering Minisforum allows the PC to boost up to 70 watts, significantly higher than AMD’s default TDP of 35-54W.

The Ryzen 9 SKU can boost up to 5.2 GHz, while the Ryzen 7 model can reach up to 5.1 GHz. Presumably, with higher TDP this will lead to longer boost clocks being maintained, as we have observed already with 50-60W Mini-PCs.

The UM880/890 Pro supports DDR5-5600 SODIMM memory (two slots) with a maximum capacity of 96GB if 48GB modules are used. The system is equipped with one HDMI 2.1 connector, one DisplayPort 1.4, and two USB4 ports. Notably, the PC includes an OCuLink connector, allowing you to connect external graphics either through USB4 or the faster connection enabled by OCuLink. Additionally, there are four USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A connectors and two 2.5 Gbit Ethernet connectors.

The UM880 Pro is listed at 2899 RMB (approximately $405 USD), while there is currently no price for the UM890 Pro. The cheapest system with pre-installed hardware (memory and storage) is priced at 3499 RMB (approximately $490 USD) and includes 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
