AMD Ryzen AI 300 RDNA3.5 GPU at least 25% faster than current RDNA3 SKU

AMD has yet to share more details on its RDNA3.5, an updated graphics architecture featured in the upcoming Ryzen AI 300 series. Other than mentioning the specs and revealing one performance slide, AMD did not provide the exact figures and information that would allow us to have a full picture of the upgrades coming to AMD’s latest Ryzen APUs.
According to Golden Pig Upgrade, at Computex, one of the MSI representatives allegedly said that the Ryzen AI 9 300 series will be about 20% faster, presumably over the current generation (Ryzen 8000). The CPU upgrades come from the increased core count and upgraded Zen5 architecture, while the graphics have also been upgraded from RDNA3 to RDNA3.5. However, AMD did not provide information about the exact changes being introduced.
What we do know is that it will now feature up to 16 Compute Units, which is an increase of 33% over the 12 CUs featured in the Radeon 780M. According to Golden Pig citing MSI rep, the new graphics would score around 3600 points in Time Spy (presumably referring to the graphics performance). It’s important to note that we do not know which Ryzen AI 9 SKU was used (there is a 12 CU variant and a 16 CU variant) and what TDP was set for testing.

In comparison to the highest score we recorded with the Ryzen 9 7940HS running at 54W, this would represent an upgrade of 26% and that’s without knowing the full context.
| Time Spy (Graphics Score) | |
|---|---|
| VideoCardz.com | Score |
| Intel Arc A370M | 3650 (100%) |
| GeForce MX 570 | 3610 (99%) |
| Ryzen AI 300 Radeon 8x0M | ~3600 (99%) |
| GeForce GTX 1650 Laptop | 3430 (94%) |
| Core Ultra 9 185H Arc 8 Xe-Core 54W | 3191 (87%) |
| GeForce RTX 2050 Laptop | 3074 (84%) |
| Ryzen 9 7940HS Radeon 780M 54W | 2858 (78%) |
| Ryzen 7 8840U Radeon 780M 28W | 2792 (76%) |
| Ryzen 9 6900HX Radeon 680M 55W | 2353 (64%) |
The core would also be 12% higher than the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, which features Arc Graphics with 8 Xe-Cores. However, AMD has made an official comparison, claiming it is 36% faster on average. As we already know, TimeSpy in particular favors Intel architecture, and synthetic benchmarks do not necessarily correspond to real gaming performance.

AMD confirmed that the first laptops with Ryzen AI 300 APUs will be available in July, without specifying the exact date. Presumably, there is an embargo date set, which should provide more information before these new laptops go on sale.
