GPD confirms AMD Ryzen AI HX 370 upgrade for DUO OLED, claims Radeon 890M is 36% faster in gaming than 780M

GPD is sharing new performance data of AMD Strix Point APU.

Chinese company GPD announced “DUO OLED” at Computex earlier this month. It’s a new laptop design featuring two full 13.3-inch AMOLED screens. The Duo was previously said to offer up to Ryzen 7 8840U. However, the company has now confirmed a change in specs, adopting the more powerful Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU instead.

This APU, introduced by AMD at Computex, is the flagship “Strix Point” processor with a total of 12 Zen5/Zen5c cores and equipped with Radeon 890M graphics, a new solution based on 16 RDNA3.5 Compute Units. AMD did not share a lot of details on performance, especially in terms of graphics. Those details should be released next month as we get closer to the launch date (also not confirmed yet).

Unaware of this fact, GPD is confirming that the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 will match the desktop Ryzen 9 7950X in single-core Cinebench 2024 benchmarks and surpass it in the multicore test:

In terms of graphics, the company claims that the Radeon 890M is 36% faster in gaming than the Radeon 780M. In TimeSpy, the performance is listed at 4221, which is 31% faster than the Radeon 780M running at 72W TDP and 51% faster than the Radeon 780M at 54W TDP (same as the 890M). If true, this represents a significant improvement for Radeon integrated graphics.

Time Spy Score Comparison, 890M GPU surpasses NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 (mobile version)

The AMD Radeon 890M GPU, based on the new RDNA 3.5 architecture, with 16 CUs and 1024 stream processors, has a 33% increase compared to the previous generation, and a 36% improvement in gaming performance! With LPDDR5x 7500 MT/s memory, the bandwidth is also improved. 3DMark – TimeSpy GPU scores are close to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (mobile version).

The company does mention though that graphics performance uplift is also contributed to higher memory specs, as Strix Point features LPDDR5-7500 memory support and most laptop makers appear to be sticking to those specs. GPD did not comment on when the DUO OLED will be released, but this upgrade will push the product at least by a month or two.
