Tandem OLED from LG enters mass production
LG Display has announced the mass production of Tandem OLED panels, first available with Dell XPS systems.

Shortly before the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series, there was a large leak featuring upcoming Dell laptops. One of the slides revealed that the company will bring Tandem OLED technology to its new laptops. A month later, the company launched the XPS 13 9345 system, equipped with the Snapdragon processor and featuring such a display.
LG Display has now announced that the company is mass-producing the industry’s first 13-inch Tandem OLED panels for laptops. These types of panels offer higher performance and lower power consumption than traditional OLED technology. As the name suggests, Tandem OLED uses two layers of red, green, and blue organic lights, which allows the panel to emit more light and increase the lifespan of the panel.
LG Display’s new Tandem OLED panel has been tailored for laptop use. It can deliver double the lifespan and triple the brightness of a conventional single-layer OLED display, while reducing power consumption by up to 40%. […] By designing the components and enhancing the structure of the 13-inch Tandem OLED panel, LG Display has been able to make it around 40% thinner and 28% lighter than existing OLED laptop screens, enabling sleek design and greater portability.

The first products featuring Tandem OLED from LG are Dell XPS 13 9345 laptops, which come with 13.4-inch WQXGA+ (2880×1800) panels boasting 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. These panels are also certified for Display HDR True Black 500.
In initial reviews of the Dell XPS laptop with this type of panel, the reviewer from XDA-Developers confirms that it peaks at 485 nits brightness, marking a 28.6% increase over the last generation model (XPS 13+). The media has dubbed it ‘the best display on a 13-inch laptop’. This laptop launched at $1,299, but the upgrade to Tandem OLED panel costs $400 on top of that.
