Steam Deck is now available for only $296

Steam Deck 15% cheaper for a limited time

Valve has announced a new price cut for Steam Deck gaming handhelds, available until July 11th.

The first Steam Deck handheld was released two years ago and remains one of the most popular and affordable gaming devices to date. Last year’s update to an OLED display did not end the previous LCD series. In fact, those models were discounted, and it appears that Deck may get even cheaper.

The company is introducing a 15% off promotion for two models: the 512GB LCD edition and the 64GB LCD edition. The promotion does not affect the 256GB LCD or any of the newer OLED variants. This essentially means that one can get a 512GB upgrade at a lower price than the 256GB model. What this also means is that Deck’s price is now below $300.

Steam Deck series (new promo)

  • 64GB LCD : $349.00 ➡️ $296.65
  • 256GB LCD : $399.00
  • 512GB LCD : $449.00➡️ $381.65
  • 512GB OLED : $549
  • 1TB OLED : $649

Currently, Valve offers five variants of the Deck, differing in display technology and storage. The OLED model also has a newer APU, faster LPDDR5-6400 memory, a higher capacity battery (50W), and a slightly larger display (7.4 inches). This upgrade was announced last year.

Thus far, Valve has not mentioned any immediate plans for Deck 2, while the original model still relies on Zen2 and RDNA2 architecture. AMD is now introducing newer APUs configured with up to 12 Zen5 cores and 16 CU RDNA3.5 graphics. AMD’s plans for the Zen5 series go further, as the company is also expected to launch the Strix Halo series featuring even more capable integrated graphics (up to 40 CUs).

The company is also expected to launch an APU codenamed Kraken Point (or Krackan) which is an 8-core Zen5/Zen5c processor with 8 RDNA3.5 CUs, nearly the same specs as the current-gen custom Deck chip but with newer architectures. It could be a suitable candidate for an update, perhaps.
