AMD X870E/X870 in late September, just before 9000X3D launch?
Wccftech reports that the first 800-series boards may drop on September 30.

The AMD X870 motherboard series will not be available at the launch of the Ryzen 9000 series. This isn’t a new rumor; similar information has been shared by other media outlets. However, a recent report from Wccftech suggests a release date for the AMD X870 motherboards on September 30. While this date is not final, it indicates at least a two-month gap between the launch of the Ryzen 9000 (Zen5) desktop CPUs and the new motherboards.
The good news is that consumers won’t be restricted to the 800-series boards. The 600-series boards will support the new processors as well. The main difference will be in connectivity: the X870E is expected to feature USB4 connections and faster AMD EXPO (memory overclocking profile) support.
Currently, the AMD Ryzen 9000 series is expected to launch on July 31, according to retailers.
Upcoming PC platforms:
- 🔴July 15 (or 28), 2024 : AMD Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” CPUs
- 🔴July 31, 2024 : AMD Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” CPUs
- 🔵September (17-24), 2024 : Intel Core Ultra 200V “Lunar Lake” CPUs
- 🔴September 30, 2024 : AMD X870 motherboards
- 🔴Q3/Q4 2024: Ryzen 9000X3D
- 🔵October, 2024 : Intel Core Ultra 200K “Arrow Lake-S” CPUs & Intel Z890 motherboards
- 🔵 January 2025 : Intel Core Ultra 200 “Arrow Lake-S” CPUs & Intel B860/H810 motherboards
More importantly, the faster DDR5 EXPO memory kits, which will take advantage of the increased speeds, will only be available a few months after the Ryzen 9000 launch, according to the report. This delay, combined with rumors that the Ryzen 9000X3D series (Zen5 with 3D V-Cache) will be released in September, suggests that the X870 series motherboards may be targeting the X3D update rather than the standard Ryzen 9000 series.
Additionally, there is no confirmed release date for the B850 and B840 motherboard series. AMD still has a significant inventory of 600-series boards, with the B650 being more popular than the X670 due to its favorable feature-to-performance ratio. It would be reasonable for AMD to deplete this stock before announcing the successors. But again, this is just a rumor, and AMD is known for last-minute shifts in its launch strategy.
