AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT: new AM4 CPUs slated for July 31 release

AMD Ryzen 5000XT series on same day as Ryzen 9000 series

New AM4 processors next month.

Although it may seem like July is all about the Zen5 architecture, the company also announced brand-new Ryzen 5000XT SKUs. This is yet another update for the aging AM4 socket, now over eight years old. AMD is clearly not abandoning this platform, and the new XT SKUs are proof of that.

AMD is bringing two SKUs: Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT. The former has a somewhat confusing name because, contrary to what it may appear, it is not a 12-core version but a 16-core. However, the clock speed is lower than the 5950XT (4.9 GHz). On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 5800XT will indeed become the fastest 8-core Zen3 processor, with a boost up to 4.8 GHz (the 5800X is 4.7 GHz).

We’ve learned through our sources close to distribution that AMD has put a July 31 sales embargo on these CPUs. This means that there are now six processors with the same launch date (six because we include the next-gen 9950X, 9900X, 9700X, and 9600X).

AMD has only confirmed that the Ryzen 5000XT series is “expected to be available to DIY customers and SI partners starting July 2024.” Now we can confirm that these SKUs are listed with the same sales embargo as the 9950XT. A quick check on retailer sites seems to confirm our information, as B&H Photo Video now lists the 5000XT with a preorder date set for July 31.

Originally, AMD announced that the new CPUs would cost $359 and $249, respectively, but later claimed this was an error in communication. Currently, neither has an official price.
