GALAX mistakenly teases GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER with 16GB VRAM

Apparently, GALAX thinks there’s a 16GB version of RTX 4070 SUPER

Of course, that’s an error.

There’s no 16GB version of the RTX 4070 SUPER, at least none that we are aware of. Even the non-standard GPU configurations didn’t feature a customized memory capacity, but rather a different GPU. It is safe to say that the promotional materials from GALAX are a mistake.

Aside from the 16GB VRAM, the card presented by GALAX appears to be a new SKU. We’ve already seen a blower-type cooler on the RTX 4070 SUPER, but that card was called CLASSIC and had a different shroud with an exposed heatsink (pictured below). So, either GALAX is unsure what they are selling, or this is a new version with a different physical appearance.

The RTX 4070 SUPER features the AD104 GPU with 7168 CUDA cores and comes equipped with 12GB GDDR6X memory across a 192-bit memory bus. To support 16GB VRAM, the card would require a wider memory bus (256-bit) or have its bandwidth limited by using a narrower bus (128-bit), which seems impractical for a large VRAM model.

Interestingly, the GALAX official website for the international market does not display this new model. However, the “CLASSIC” version is shown on their Chinese website. Needless to say, this teaser from GALAX is quite strange.
