AMD Ryzen 9 9900X allegedly 14-18% faster than 7900X in synthetic multi-core test

The review embargo for the Ryzen 9000 series can’t come soon enough. Wccftech has been leaking information on the new processors almost daily. It appears the media obtained some confidential and preliminary testing data from board partners optimizing their platforms for the new desktop series. The site has revealed AMD’s plans for the X3D series, which are particularly appealing to gamers right now. However, with the non-X3D series launching later this month, the focus is on comparing Zen5 to Zen4.
AMD is introducing four new SKUs to the AM5 socket: the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X, 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X, 8-core Ryzen 9 9700X, and 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X. AMD has not yet confirmed the pricing for these SKUs, but they are expected to be priced similarly to the Ryzen 7000 series at launch.
Reports indicate that the 12-core desktop CPU performs well in multi-threaded tests. It was allegedly tested on AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS optimized for the Ryzen 9000 series on premium X670E motherboards. The 800-series boards are not expected to ship before September, so the initial focus will be on existing platforms.

The new CPU has a lower TDP than the current-generation Ryzen 9 7900X with Zen4 cores, although both have the same core counts and a boost clock of 5.6 GHz. In Cinebench R23 multi-threaded tests, the 7900X scores around 29,000 points, while the 9900X can reach 33,000 points at stock settings, representing a 14% improvement with lower TDP. In Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) enabled tests, the 9900X reportedly reaches 34,500 points, an 18% increase over Zen4 part.
Synthetic benchmarks don’t tell the whole story, and for the 9000 series to succeed, it must also perform well in gaming, potentially reaching the level of the 7000X3D series. Wccftech promises to share more on the gaming performance of the Ryzen 9000 series soon.
