Never released RTX 4070 with AD104-275 GPU and 10GB VRAM spotted
It looks like somebody is now selling a once-forgotten RTX 4070 sample that was never made into an official product.

What we often say is that just because multiple sources do not agree on the specs, and each source seems to have different specs in mind, it doesn’t mean that all of them are wrong. On the contrary, NVIDIA often shifts the specs, and that usually happens before GPUs are distributed to board partners.
It looks like one of these unreleased variants has now been confirmed. On the Goofish second-hand marketplace, where we often see pre-release Intel and AMD CPUs on sale, one can now find a GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card with unusual specs. The card features an AD104-275 GPU and comes equipped with 7168 CUDA cores. Furthermore, this particular model features a 160-bit memory bus, which limits its support for GDDR6 memory to 10GB .

As we know, NVIDIA eventually did launch a card with 7168 cores, the RTX 4070 SUPER. However, this model has the same memory configuration as the original version (12GB) while significantly more cores than the original (5888 cores). The unreleased RTX 4070 model had a much higher base clock though (1920 MHz vs. 2355 MHz).

Physically, the board design that leaked is clearly from an NVIDIA Founders Edition model, and it comes equipped with a 12VHWPR connector, just like the 4070 Founders Edition.
Of course, we do not know how the source got their hands on an engineering sample that was seemingly never distributed to board partners. The source in this case should be NVIDIA themselves, but once again, this proves a strange rumor that was difficult to believe at the time: 10GB VRAM on a 4070-class GPU. If NVIDIA did not change their mind, who knows, maybe the SUPER variant would have only received an upgrade to 12GB?
