AMD Ryzen 9 9950X has been overclocked to 6.6 GHz with LN2, scores 55K points in Cinebench R23

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X is a new record-breaking CPU

The AMD XOC (Extreme Overclocking) team held a live demo featuring Ryzen 9 9950X overclocking for Zen5 Tech Day attendees. Among them were members from Gamers Nexus who shot a dedicated video of the demo.

The XOC team used an ASUS X670E ROG Crosshair Gene motherboard, which is a special board for overclockers featuring two DDR5 DIMMs. They chose the flagship 16-core Zen5 processor for this test, which was placed under a liquid nitrogen pot and subjected to advanced testing. While AMD Ryzen Master was functioning during the video shoot, a custom app made by ASUS was used instead.

The processor managed to score 55K points in Cinebench while consuming up to 552W of power and running at minus ~90 degrees Celsius (pot temperature). To achieve this result, the CPU was overclocked to 6.4 GHz. However as mentioned during the demo, the CPU can go even higher to 6.6 or even 6.7 GHz under specific settings.

Some of these Cinebench scores would have secured first place in the HWBOT ranking if it had been published. This is likely to happen once the processor is released and other results are shared.

Ryzen 9 9950X overclocking results

  • Cinebench R23 MultiCore (points)
    • Stock: 41924
    • PBO+EXPO: 43905 +4.7%
    • Curve Shaper: 45303 +8.0%
    • LN2: 53557 +27.7%
    • LN2 (WR): 55296 +31.9%

According to AMD, the Ryzen 9 9950X can score 41,924 points at stock settings. Users should expect 4.7% higher performance with PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) and EXPO (DDR5 OC profiles). By using Curve Shaper, users may increase this performance by up to 8%. This is probably as far as the average enthusiast can go, with LN2 enabling up to a 31.9% boost.
