MSI addresses Intel Core 13/14th Gen Core series instability, confirms new BIOS for mid-August

Intel Raptor Lake instability: MSI confirms another BIOS incoming

MSI is the first company to confirm a new BIOS (another one).

MSI has acknowledged the instability issues affecting Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen Core series, known as Raptor Lake. These problems have been ongoing for several months, with Intel only addressing them earlier this week without fully guaranteeing a complete resolution with the upcoming BIOS update.

MSI stated that they are working with Intel and closely monitoring the situation. They plan to release a new BIOS to customers once Intel provides the updated microcode, which is expected to be available by mid-August.

Addressing Recent Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen Desktop Processor Instability

Regarding the recent Intel® Core™ 13th /14th Gen desktop processors instability, MSI has worked closely with Intel to understand the situation and is closely monitoring the progress. We will provide the updated BIOS to our customers and users as soon as possible after the new microcode is released in the middle of August. Stay tuned.

Intel’s statement did not provide a definitive answer; in fact, it sparked even more discussions due to a secondary statement shared only on Intel’s subreddit. The company confirmed that there was indeed a via oxidation issue which has already been resolved. However, the first part of the statement claimed this did not affect instability, only for second half to admit that it did, but only for a small number of CPUs.

Motherboard makers like MSI are clearly in a tough spot because Intel also has not provided clear guidelines for affected customers. There is no recall or easy CPU replacement program; instead, users are asked to contact Intel support themselves. The new BIOS is not expected to fix the issue for already affected CPUs, claims Tom’s Hardware .

This is our 14th story on the subject, and we aim to share the most important details only. Hopefully, in a few weeks, this issue will be resolved, and Intel will provide a clear statement that explains everything discovered during the internal investigation and offers a clear path for affected users.
