Gigabyte confirms Ryzen 9000 support through latest AGESA 1.2.0.0A firmware

Gigabyte ready for Ryzen 9000

Gigabyte confirms support for Ryzen 9000 series on its AM5 based motherboards.

There is some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that there are no 800-series motherboards available yet, and they likely won’t be available when the Ryzen 9000 series is released. AMD has pushed back the release by a week or two (depending on the SKU), but the 800-series boards are expected by mid-September at the earliest.

The good news is that existing 600-series motherboards will feature all the launch features that AMD promised for Zen5 desktop CPUs. This support relies on a beta BIOS. AMD has yet to provide the final BIOS supporting Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” Zen5 desktop processors.

The currently available firmware relies on AGESA 1.2.0.0A, which is a beta release that enables three features:

  • Curve Shaper (new undervolting feature)
  • Memory overclocking on the fly (memory OC without restarts)
  • Memory Optimized performance profiles (higher EXPO speeds)

Based on the data collected among the largest motherboard vendors, not all boards already have the necessary beta BIOS available. It is true through that the majority now has a firmware with AGESA 1.2.0.0a, but there is no sign of the 1.2.0.1 which according to our information, should be the first non-beta release:

  • AGESA 1.1.7.0 Patch A (Release): Released in late May, this version enables boot compatibility with AMD Ryzen™ 9000 processors across the X670, B650, and A620 motherboards lineup.
  • AGESA 1.2.0.0a Patch A (Beta): Currently available on the official website, this latest beta BIOS optimizes performance for AMD Ryzen™9000 processors, allowing users to harness the full potential of these next-generation processors.
  • AGESA 1.2.0.1 (unreleased) – non-Beta based on 1.2.0.0A

You can refer to HardwareLuxx threads with necessary links featuring ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock. Unless one is rushing to buy Ryzen 9000, it would be better to wait for the new firmware.
