NVIDIA RTX 4070 with GDDR6 non-X memory rumored
Benchlife claims that such a model could appear soon.
Benchlife reports that NVIDIA might be working on a new version of the GeForce RTX 4070. Although it’s just speculation, the site lists the some specs as if they’re confirmed. In broader context, this follows reports from Board Channels about supply issues with GDDR6X memory. NVIDIA is said to be prioritizing high-end models and scaling down production of the RTX 4070 series, as they typically sell GPU and memory as a bundle.
The RTX 4070 is not the latest GPU, having been succeeded by a SUPER variant in January. There’s no word on changes to the 4070 SUPER, so any potential memory changes would likely affect only the original model. Benchlife mentions that the new model would simply get GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X and could use the AD104 GPU. If this happens, the cheapest option for NVIDIA would be to use the RTX 4060 Ti PCB, which uses the AD106 GPU and G6 memory.
There’s nothing surprising about this speculation, since the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti already uses an AD104 GPU version paired with GDDR6 memory. So, if a 12GB GDDR6 version of the GeForce RTX 4070 exists, it’s very likely that it would use the AD104-150 chip version of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti PCB.

As we near the end of the RTX 40 series, NVIDIA isn’t expected to introduce any major SKUs before the release of the Blackwell series. Non-standard SKUs with mixed GPUs and memory configurations are likely from now on.
But these are just words. It’s much easier to present this with a table that includes only the 4070 series, immediately showing how many different variants there are.
