Snapdragon Dev Kit: first Mini-PC with Snapdragon X Elite is priced at $899, available in August

Snapdragon Dev Kit, the first ‘desktop’ featuring X Elite series

A US retailer has listed the Dev Kit featuring Qualcomm’s new PC processor, with estimated availability set for August 23. This isn’t an official launch of the first Mini-PC featuring the Snapdragon X Series; rather, it’s just the date when one retailer will start fulfilling preorders, which seemingly went live recently.

The Snapdragon Dev Kit is a Windows PC in a small form factor PC (measuring 20×17 cm), making it a bit larger than most Mini-PCs on the market. However, this isn’t a typical retail product; it’s an official kit for developers who wish to write and test software for Windows on ARM.

Perhaps the biggest strong point for the kit is that it features the fastest Snapdragon X Elite processor, codenamed “X1E-00-IDE.” This processor boasts 12 cores up to 4.3 GHz (dual-core boost) and an Adreno GPU capable of up to 4.6 TFLOPs.

Users will also get 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and 512GB of NVMe storage (speed not specified for either). It supports WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Additionally, there are several ports available, including one Ethernet port (again, speed not specified), three USB Type-C ports, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, and audio jack connectors.

Snapdragon Dev Kit Details

  • NPU : Hexagon 45 TOPS
  • RAM : 32GB LPDDR5x
  • Storage : 512GB NVMe
  • Ports : 3x USB-C, 2x USB-A, 1x RJ45, 1x 3.5 audio, HDMI

The kit is $899, which is the same price as Qualcomm promised. It is quite expensive and not a practical choice for the average user, but developers who want to create more ARM-native apps for Windows, may consider this necessary investment. However, it would appear that Snapdragon X Elite series laptops aren’t that popular, and pricing laptops above $1,000 hasn’t made it more approachable. Maybe Qualcomm should consider giving these to ARM developers for free.
