ASUS preparing ROG Z13 Flow 2025, a gaming tablet with AMD 110W Strix Halo APU

ASUS ROG Flow Z13 gets Strix Halo, a next-gen gaming tablet

A Taiwanese company will put a 100W+ APU inside a tablet.

Some interesting details have been leaked regarding the next-gen AMD Strix Halo product planning. The leak covers the next generation of the ASUS ROG Z13 Flow 2025 , a compact tablet with a detachable keyboard, which is seemingly being updated to support AMD’s future Strix Halo APU.

The leak originated from thermal specialist and designer Sam Jiun-Wei Hu, who published documents regarding the ROG Flow design for 2025. This is when the Halo is expected to hit the market. The engineer isn’t hiding the fact that this tablet is meant for Halo; in fact, it is mentioned in the analysis description and in the documents attached to the analysis.

The Flow Z13 2025 aims to set a new benchmark in this category by integrating the latest and most powerful AMD Strix Halo processors (CPU up to 30W and GPUs up to 80W) . However, achieving such high performance within a 13-inch tablet requires a revolutionary and efficient thermal solution to manage the substantial heat generated by these components. This project addresses the gap in effective thermal management solutions for high-performance compact gaming tablets.

The thermal design schematics demonstrate how much space was saved by replacing the CPU and GPU with a single die. Both platforms use LPDDR5X memory, which is already covered by the large vapor chamber. For AMD Strix Halo, ASUS will use an even larger one.

The tablet has been tested with an improved cooling design, which has a lower weight, but the overall design will be thicker. The engineers described it as less portable and holdable. It may also increase the drilling cost for the ventilation openings. Also it is expected to be a bit louder.

It is worth noting that AMD aims to enable up to 30W for the CPU and 80W for the GPU in the Strix Point APU design. It appears that either companies like ASUS will have the ability to change the power limit for each part of the processor, or AMD will ship variants of Halo with predefined power limits.

Since the product is clearly labeled as 2025, it is safe to assume that it will be released next year. ASUS typically launches its products in waves, and such systems are usually announced alongside major CPU launches.
