Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid combines Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 in a 2-in-1 tablet system

This isn’t a new product, as it was already presented at CES 2024. However, today is the official launch, starting with the Chinese market. Initially, it wasn’t clear if this concept design would ever see the light of day, but it looks like Lenovo has gone ahead with their plans.
So, what is the ThinkBook Plus Gen5 Hybrid? It’s a Windows and Android-based product that combines an Android tablet and a Windows laptop into one device. Technically speaking, these are two separate devices.

Think of a fully independent tablet that can easily be converted into a Windows device by plugging in a keyboard. The keyboard itself is a different PC featuring an Intel CPU. Interestingly, users do not have to disconnect the screen, aka the tablet part, from the base to use the Android part. Users can run both systems simultaneously side by side on a single screen.
This device is something that many users were waiting for, but it is not perfect. For starters, there’s a lack of full integration between both systems. There is, in fact, a special 10GB storage that can be used by both devices, and the tablet even has a camera module that allows Windows to access those photos without any issues. However, users are still required to log in to both operating systems. Perhaps this is not a drawback though, as many of the systems affected by Crowdstrike blue screens could simply switch to a different system.
When discussing specs, it is important to mention that both systems have separate CPUs, memory, and storage. The Windows part (keyboard/touchpad) uses an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor (Meteor Lake) with 16 cores. This is supported by 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 memory and 1TB of M.2 2280 SSD in PCIe 4.0×4 standard. The tablet is primarily a 14-inch 2.8K OLED screen equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, 12GB of LPDDR5X memory (unspecified speed), and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Of course, both parts have separate networking.
Last but not least, the full product has a 113 Whr battery (38 Whr tablet + 75 Whr laptop). Just be sure to disconnect both devices before boarding a plane (the limit is 99 Whr per device with carry-on carry-on bags).
The ThinkBook Plus Gen5 Hybrid is a cool device that may find its niche, but it is an expensive product listed at 15,999 RMB (around $2200), which is a bit more expensive than initially communicated by Lenovo ($2000).
