ASUS first to release Z790 BIOS with microcode update for Raptor Lake instability issue

ASUS rolls out new BIOS for Z790 motherboards targeting Intel CPU instability concerns

The new BIOS says to contain the expected microcode update.

Tech reviewers should now be gearing up to test the new microcode version “129”. Intel has promised to release the microcode update in mid-August, focusing on addressing instability in the 13th and 14th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” processors. The update is expected not to affect Turbo Boost, or overclocking. However, this will need to be verified, and we look forward to seeing how the microcode performs and whether it resolves the issues for potentially affected processors.

It should be noted, though, that the update will not fix already degraded CPUs that have been exposed to elevated voltages and are already showing symptoms of instability. Such processors will need to be returned to Intel for replacement.

The new BIOS is still in BETA and currently only covers the Z790 series. ASUS also claims that it improves system performance, though they have not provided specific details.
