AMD Ryzen 9000 launches today

The first Zen5 processors are now available for purchase.

Yesterday, the first reviews of AMD’s latest architecture on the desktop platform were released, giving a glimpse of its performance. Today marks the official launch, with products now available for purchase. However, this isn’t the complete lineup, as AMD is set to introduce its 12-core and 16-core variants next week.

The Ryzen 7 9700X, an 8-core processor, features a boost clock up to 5.5 GHz. Unlike its predecessor, this one uses 65W instead of 120W. Despite the change in power the 9700X still outperforms the previous Ryzen 7 7700X but falls short of matching the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which remains the preferred choice for gamers. AMD has priced the 9700X at $359.

Alongside this, AMD has also launched the 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X, which offers a boost clock of 5.4 GHz and a 65W TDP. This model is priced at $279, making it $20 cheaper than its predecessor.

Definitely check out the reviews for both processors, as the initial reactions have been mixed. It seems that the new series hasn’t made a strong impression on tech reviewers. This raises the question of whether the Ryzen 7000 series might still be a better choice for many users. For those already using Ryzen 7000 processors, there doesn’t seem to be a need to upgrade—at least not until the Ryzen 9000X3D series hits the market.
